Following on from the first High Assurance Detection Systems (HADeS) competition, the Department for Transport (DfT) is launching the second phase of the competition (HADeS 2026) (High Assurance Detection Systems) which aims to enhance UK airports’ checkpoint security screening capability.

This project will focus on alarm resolution and any operating concept that can enhance the performance of checkpoint systems to screen aviation passengers and their cabin baggage.

Overview

The HADeS 2026 competition is being issued to attract innovators that can support DfT’s aspiration to ensure that the security checkpoint meets the highest possible threat detection capability, while remaining operationally viable, with funding and programmatic support to develop their solutions.

The competition will be led by the Connected Places Catapult which will convene stakeholders, manage the competition, assist in supplier selection and offer successful suppliers additional business support throughout the grant funding period as required. DfT is providing the technical assessors for this competition, who will have the final say in selecting awardees for grant funding, provide monthly technical 1-2-1 sessions for competition participants, and assess the options for next steps at the end of the programm
